Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,

We are looking forward to a year of celebrating Pioneer’s rich school spirit, rigorous academics, outstanding athletics and amazing students, teachers, and parents. Please read the enclosed information very carefully. All necessary forms need to be completed and returned in order for your student to pick up his/her schedule on their assigned date. See the white 2010-2011 Important Information sheet for details.
Please note that the first day of school is Monday, August 16, 2010. Our news hours for the 2010/11 school year will be 7:25am - 2:22pm. School is closed the week of October 4 8th for SJUSD’s furlough week. The fall semester officially ends December 17, 2010 and the last day of school will be June 2, 2011. Be sure to mark these dates on your calendar as this year is going to fly by!
Communication is very important for all of us and we will make every effort to keep you informed. The Pony Express, written by our journalism students, is our school newspaper. It is published quarterly and is available to download from our website or can be e-mailed directly to you. Subscribe by enrolling at pioneerhigh@gmail.com. Messages will be sent out via our Parent Link phone system. Daily announcements and calendar dates are posted to our web site available at www.Pioneerhigh.org.
Parents, we need you to be involved here at school. The success we have enjoyed at Pioneer is largely due to our outstanding parent community who selflessly volunteer as leaders and members of our PTSA, Athletic Boosters, Music/Drama Boosters and Education Foundation. Pioneer students and teachers benefit directly from your involvement. Membership information is included in this packet.
•The Pioneer Educational Foundation supports academic success through special projects like the Pony Express and technology growth.
•The PTSA directly supports teachers, classroom instruction, student events and celebrations.
•The Athletic Boosters support all athletic teams on campus.
•The Music/Drama Boosters support all our performing arts groups, which include drama, choral, orchestra and instrumental.
Our English department requires summer homework. Please visit our website to learn more about the required reading assignments. The Pioneer staff and I look forward to meeting and working with all of you to ensure an academically challenging program filled with memorable high school experiences.
Sincerely,
Susan Walker, Principal
